Gorillas ‘play games of tag’
A quick lunchtime post before I pass out from hunger, but I’ve just seen a headline on the BBC website saying that “gorillas ‘play games of tag like humans'”.
According to the article, scientists have studied footage of gorillas tapping each other and then running away, and reckon they’re playing as a way of testing the limits of acceptable behaviour in their social group.
This is Dr. Marina Davila Ross from the University of Portsmouth quoted on the site: “It seems to me that they can learn through this kind of behaviour about limits and how far they can go in a social setting, and also about their specific group members and how far you can go with them.”
