Marathon des Sables
Seeing as my own poxy marathon training is utterly defeating me (stupid knees), I thought I’d direct your attention to my mate Tim Stone, who’s chosen to run the Marathon des Sables in a couple of months’ time.
The Marathon des Sables is one of those ludicrous events where burly supermen carry buffaloes over mountains or something equally pointless. In this case it’s crossing the Sahara in six days. You’re essentially running the equivalent of a marathon a day, on sand, carrying all your equipment, food and water, for six days in the Saharan sun.
Anyway, he’s doing it for a few some very worthy causes – Mencap, MyBnk and Brain Tumour UK. So if you want to bask in some reflected sporting glory, or you just want to find out a bit more about this ultra-marathon stuff, head to Tim’s blog, where you can follow his updates and watch his body inevitably collapse in on itself. The race kicks off on the 1st April.
